Name That Tweet: Tune in to KSTK 101.7  from April 24-28 at 9:50 am to listen for the featured bird song of the day and “Name that Tweet” to win a prize!

 

Friday - April 21

10:00 am Storytime at Irene Ingle Public Library

Forest Service naturalists will join the library's regular story time with books & a craft with an Earth Day Theme.

Sunday - April 23

4:00 pm - Free Family Movie: Rio

Free Showing of this animated film. Concessions will be open. Location: Nolan Center Theater

 

Friday – April 28

8:00 am  Bird Banding at Volunteer Park for schools

6:30 pm Keynote Speaker - John Marzluff: Think Like a Raven

THINK LIKE A RAVEN is a culmination of Marzluff’s collaborative work detailing the intertwined lives of ravens, wolves, pumas, and the people that visit and live around Yellowstone.  The talk’s arc follows the seasons of Yellowstone and the scientific journey he undertook to decode the mysteries of raven life.

Saturday -April 29

7:00-9:00 am Bird Banding at City Park

Watch bird bander Gwen Baluss mistnet and place bands on songbirds to track their migratory flight. Stop by at any time to watch! Weather dependent (can be canceled due to rain/wind).  Location: City Park (near the Community Garden)

8:30 am - 1:00 pm Wrangell Community Clean-up

Help clean our local community for the benefit of people and wildlife. Lunch & cash prizes! Sponsored by WCA IGAP & Paula Rak. Location: Evergreen Elementary Gym

10:00 am Angerman’s Inc. Golf Tournament

First golf tournament of the year! Sign up by 9:30 am. Cost: $25 cash entry fee  Location: Muskeg Meadows Golf Course

2:00 pm International Biologists Presentations

Learn about shorebird conservation from biologists from Chile and Mexico. Location: Nolan Center Classroom

3:00 -5:00 pm Traditional Indigenous Plants Walk with Meda DeWitt

Join us for a wonderful Saturday afternoon plant walk and talk in Wrangell with Meda DeWitt! We'll be exploring the beautiful and diverse ecosystem by the nature trail while learning about traditional Indigenous plants in the area. You’ll discover how to identify plants in the region, their uses, and traditional healing concepts. The following day, we will put our knowledge into practice and make salve from local Indigenous plants. It's sure to be an enriching experience for everyone! Don't miss this chance to learn about the amazing plants native to Southeast Alaska and their medicinal and healing properties.

6:00 pm Ducks Unlimited Fundraiser Banquet at the Stikine Inn

10:00-noon Salve Making Workshop

After learning about traditional plants on Saturday's nature walk, Join Meda DeWitt for a hands on workshop making botanical salves.

Location: Middle School Home Ec. Room/Kitchen

10:00 am Angerman’s Inc. Golf Tournament

4:00 pm Youth Dance Recital

Watch ballet students perform their spring-themed dances.

Friday – May 5

10:00 am - Story Trail Scavenger Hunt

Go for a walk on the nature trail short loop and read a bird themed book along the way. Keep an eye out for prizes on the trail which you can keep. Will be set up by 10 am Friday, May 5th. Story trail will be up all weekend.

Saturday - May 6

7:00 am Early Birds Walk

Join Bonnie Demerjian on a morning bird walk to identify birds by sight & sound. All ages welcome!  Location:  Muskeg Meadows Golf Course

10:00 am – 1:00 pm Wrangell Community Market
View various artists’ handiwork and goodies for sale.                                                         Location: Nolan Center.

10:00 am Critter Craft: Bird House                                                                                          Stop by and make your very own bird house. Please bring your own hammer.                  Location: Outside James & Elsie Nolan Center. Sponsored by: Angerman’s Inc. and Outlet
