Thursday - April 24 

Among Penguins: Life Down South   SRBF guest speaker Noah Strycker will be talking to Wrangell students about his stint researching penguins in Antarctica.

10:00 am – 11:00am Story Time – FREE.   Bring the little ones for readings from children’s books.

6:00 Stikine River Birding Festival Reception -FREE  Come by and meet our guest artist and speakers over snacks and refreshments. Admire both Elizabeth’s art on display, as well as the work from local Wrangell students. Photo contest winners will be announced, and copies of Noah Strycker’s brand-new book will be available for purchase.  Location: James & Elsie Nolan Center

6:15 pm Bird Tales – FREE   What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen a raven do? Ever had a Hitchcockian “The Birds” experience? This is your chance to share your best bird story! Prizes will be awarded for best adult and youth tales!    Location: James & Elsie Nolan Center

7:00 pm BIRD WORLD: INSIGHTS FOR HUMANS FROM THE WORLD OF BIRDS
Approaching bird behavior from new and surprising angles, Noah Strycker explores the astonishing homing abilities of pigeons, extraordinary memories of nutcrackers, self-image in magpies, life-long loves of albatrosses, particle physics of starling flocks, and other mysteries—revealing why birds do what they do, and how we can relate. With humor and wit, and drawing deep from cutting-edge science and anecdotes from the field, Noah’s presentation will leave you with renewed inspiration about our close connections with birds.Location: James & Elsie Nolan Center

 

Friday - April 25

Stikine River Birding Field Trip : Join us on a morning jetboat trip up the Stikine River to admire the spring scenery, and of course, the birds!  CallBreakaway Adventures at 888-385-2488 to sign up; limited space available with fee. 

6:30 pm Tlingit Cultivation Practices - Free  Guest artist and anthropologist Elizabeth Kunibe will give a presentation on early Tlingit farming practices.Location: James & Elsie Nolan Center

7:30 pm Falconry Presentation - FREE   Juneau falconer John Eiler will give a presentation on the art of falconry and introduce us to his gyrfalcon Mirage.  Location: James & Elsie Nolan Center

 

Saturday - April 26

7:00 am Breakfast with the Birds - FREE  Join local author and birder Bonnie Demerjian on a morning bird walk.  A continental breakfast is provided!  Location:  Muskeg Meadows Golf Course

10:00 am –12:00 Wrangell Community Market   The first Community Market for 2014! View various artists’ handiwork and goodies for sale. Plus stop by the Forest Service table for a free bird activity.
Location: Nolan Center

10:00 am – 12:00pm Archaeology Activity - FREE   Paint Tlingit designs on red cedar shingles using fish eggs.  Location: Nolan Center.   Sponsored by: US Forest Service

11:00 am – noon Critter Craft: Bird Houses - FREE    Stop by and make your very own bird house. Remember to bring your own hammer.  Location: Nolan Center.  Sponsored by: Angerman’s Inc. and Outlet & US Forest Service

6:00 pm Ducks Unlimited Banquet with No Host Cocktails  Dinner served at 7:00 pm. Raffles along with live and silent auctions following dinner.
