Wrangell has some excellent hiking and camping opportunities.
There are trails rated easy to hard; as well as trails easily accessible near town and those that require transportation.
Wrangell Parks and Recreation Department maintains an RV Park at Shoemaker Bay Recreation area with picnic tables, firepits and electrical hook-ups.
Tent camping is permitted at City Park about 1 mile from the Ferry Terminal as well as at Shoemaker Bay Park, approximatley 4.5 miles from town.
The US Forest Service maintains numerous cabins and camping sites, trails and scenic overlooks in the Wrangell Ranger District which includes Wrangell Island, the mainland and surrounding islands. All of the cabins but one require boat or plane transportation. The camping sites are more remote, are located on Wrangell Island and several are accessible by RV's.
