City Park
City Park is located one mile from the ferry terminal on Zimovia Highway. The park is a waterfront park on Zimovia Straits and has a scenic view of the inland waters and surrounding islands. It is adjacent to a historic cemetery and the Little League practice ball field. The park has two covered areas with fireplaces and several picnic tables. A 4.5 mile bike trail begins at City Park going south out of town along the water front. Tent camping is allowed on a 24-hour basis only. Restroom facilities are available.
Shoemaker Bay Park
Five miles south of town along the Institute Creek is Shoemaker Bay Recreation area. This is a Wrangell favorite and is heavily used year round. The park has a picnic shelter with a fireplace, picnic tables, tennis court, horseshoe pits, playground equipment, outdoor volleyball area and public restroom facilities.
Adjacent to the Park across the Institute Creek Footbridge and across the highway from the Rainbow Falls Trailhead is a tent camping area with picnic tables. Restrooms are nearby and the tent camping here is at no-charge. An archery range is now open and located across from Shoemaker Bay parking lot.
Shoemaker Bay RV Park
Shoemaker Bay RV Park is located before the harbor in the Shoemaker Bay Recreation Area.. The RV park area offers 16 sites for RV and trailer camping. All sites have picnic tables, fireplace units, electricity, but no running water. A dump station, water spigot and restrooms are in the adjacent harbor parking area. The Park has an excellent view of Zimovia Strait, surrounding islands and harbor. Sites are available with electrical hook-ups at $25.00/day and without electrical hook-ups at $15.00/day. The RV Park is offered on a first come, first serve basis; no reservations are taken. Nemo Campsites
U.S. Forest Service maintains three separate camping areas approximately 14 miles south of Wrangell off Zimovia Highway and Forest Road 16 to Forest Road 6267. An entry site with an information display is .5 miles on Forest Road 6267. Yunshookuh Loop is at .7 miles and has three sites each with picnic table, fire ring and grill. One outhouse serves all sites. Three Sisters View Point is at 1.5 mile and has two picnic tables and fire rings with an outhouse. Anita Bay Overlook is at 2.2 miles and also has picnic tables and fire rings and outhouse. Each site offers spectacular views of Zimovia Strait and Etolin Island. No reservations or fees required. A volunteer camp host is available to answer visitor questions. (Road maps are available from the Wrangell Ranger District).
Earl West Cove Recreation Site
The site is 28 miles southeast of Wrangell at the end of Forest Road 6265 on the "Back Channel" or Eastern Passage. Access is via a 100 foot trail from the parking area to the picnic site with an excellent view of Earl West Cove, the Eastern Passage and the peaks of the mainland. A picnic table, outhouse, campfire ring and grill are provided. A boat ramp for saltwater launching is also available. (Road maps are available from the Wrangell Ranger District).
Long Lake Recreation Site and Shelter
28 miles southeast of Wrangell off Forest Roads 6265,6270 and at the end of Spur 6271. There is a day use picnic site and outhouse at the trailhead which is fully accessible. A half-mile trail leads to a three sided shelter on the north end of Long Lade, with a campfire ring, grill and outhouse. A skiff with oars is also provided for fishing Long Lake though users must provide their own personal floatation devices. (Road maps are available from the Wrangell Ranger District).
Salamander Creek Recreation Sites
Two sites located about 17 miles from Wrangell near where Forest Road 6265 crosses Salamander Creek (Upper site) and at the junction of Forest Road 6265 and Forest Road 50050 (Lower site). The upper site is accessed via a 700 foot trail from the parking area with outhouse to the picnic site with fire ring and grill near the Creek. The lower site, also on the Creek, is accessed by road and has three separate camping sites, each with its own picnic table and fire ring. Both sites are fully accessible. Thoms Creek Crossing
This camping area is approximately 38 miles from Wrangell off Forest Roads 6265, 6270 6299 where it crosses Thoms Creek. There is a 100 foot short trail connecting the parking area to a picnic table and fire ring with outhouse. (Road maps are available from the Wrangell Ranger District).
