Chief Shakes Tribal House

Chief Shakes Tribal House

Chief Shakes Tribal House has been undergoing restoration efforts the last two years and has been closed to the public during that time.  The Restoration efforts are almost complete and the rededication is scheduled for May 3 and May 4, 2013.  Wrangell expects over 800 people to attend the grand celebration - so please make your reservations early!

The Wrangell Cooperative Association will mark the occasion with a two-day celebration of food, games and dancing with guests from neighboring communities.  For more information, including the latest updates and where to sign up to help with the re-dedication, check out the Shakes Island website.

On March 28, 6:30 pm at the Wrangell Public Library, Tis Peterman of the Wrangell Cooperative Association will be presenting a statewide video conference on the history of Chief Shakes Tribal House and the restoration efforts completed.
