The Irene Ingle Public Library’s mission is to enrich lives and foster community through accessible resources, vibrant programming, and welcoming spaces. We envision the library being our community’s hub of knowledge, creativity, and inspiration, supporting lifelong learning and meaningful interactions.  

Department Summary:

The Irene Ingle Public Library serves the Wrangell community and its visitors by offering a wide range of services and resources. These include public Wi-Fi, computers with internet access, word processing, scanning, and printing capabilities. The library also offers photocopying, wireless printing, and AWE Early Literacy Stations for young children. Additionally, a conference room that seats up to 10 people is available and can be reserved for two-hour sessions.

The library's collection includes an extensive catalog of books in both regular and large print, with new releases being added regularly. The collection also includes thousands of DVDs, a large selection of magazine and periodical titles, music CDs, board games, Wonderbooks, a digital projector and screen, a DVD drive, STEM Kits, and 6’ tables. Any print or recorded items not available in the library’s physical collection can be requested through interlibrary loan.

Other services the library provides include access to the Alaska Digital Library catalog for eBooks, audiobooks, and eMagazines, online access to the Wrangell’s historical newspapers from 1898-1956, as well as current print newspapers from Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Anchorage, which are available to view in the library. Library staff also proctors exams for people seeking a higher education locally.

The library's prized Alaskana collection contains 4,500 titles, featuring many priceless historical volumes that help tell the story of our region.

The library offers a variety of programming for the community, including spring and fall toddler story time, a wildly successful youth Summer Reading Program, a Winter Reading Program for grownups, crafting events, an adult book club, an annual magic show and more.

The library is staffed by one full-time Library Director, one full-time Library Assistant, and a pool of part-time Library Technicians.
