2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) Information

NEWS RELEASE AS OF February 25, 2020

The Alaska Section of Epidemiology is closely monitoring the rapidly-emerging outbreak of COVID-19 first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Additional cases have been identified in a growing number of other international locations, including the United States. There are currently no confirmed cases in Alaska.

In addition to getting an annual flu vaccine, please remember these everyday preventive measures to protect against the flu, the common cold and other respiratory diseases including COVID-19.
 
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; if not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • If you’re sick, stay home and avoid close contact with others.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.  Discard tissue immediately into a closed bin.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
