IMPORTANT:  The City and Borough of Wrangell is utilizing NIXLE.  Nixle Community Information Service allows us to create and publish messages to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle's website.

The service is secure and reliable for Wrangell residents to use. Wrangell emergency services will be utilizing NIXLE for critical situations such as severe weather events or evacuation alerts, as well as community notices for road closure, or scheduled power outages.

In addition to getting an annual flu vaccine, please remember these everyday preventive measures to protect against the flu, the common cold and other respiratory diseases including COVID-19.

*Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; if not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
*Avoid contact with people who are sick.     
*If you’re sick, stay home and avoid close contact with others.
*Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.  Discard tissue immediately into a closed bin.
*Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
​​* Practice social distancing and try and stay at least 6 feet from other people.
*Wash your hands frequently -- see the top bullet.
*If you have traveled South, please self quarantine for 14 days.
*Please do not gather in groups of more than 10.
*Great time to learn to Skype, Facetime, Video chat.

As of last night, Wrangell has no known cases COVID-19. Dr. Zink gives a excellent update of state wide numbers.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: PREVENTATIVE EMERGENCY DECLARATION

As of 9:00 AM Monday, March 16, 2020, there are currently no confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Southeast Alaska. For the latest confirmed case study in our state, please visit the COVID-19: Case Counts page on the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services website.

NEWS RELEASE AS OF February 25, 2020

The Alaska Section of Epidemiology is closely monitoring the rapidly-emerging outbreak of COVID-19 first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Additional cases have been identified in a growing number of other international locations, including the United States. There are currently no confirmed cases in Alaska.
