Public Hearing Notice & Right to Protest

As per WMC 16.12.040, notice is hereby given that a request has been received from Royce Cowan, to purchase Borough owned real property consisting of approximately 158,400 square feet, a portion of Borough-owned real property within a Portion of Section 27 T62S, R84E, zoned Remote Mixed Use, (Wrangell Island East - Back Channel) for the purpose of establishing an easement that will serve as a private roadway. 

The Wrangell Planning & Zoning Commission has reviewed the request and approved moving forward with the real property purchase.  

Any person wishing to protest this application to purchase the proposed Borough-owned real property described as:

A portion of Borough-owned real property (158,400 sq. ft.) within a Portion of Section 27 T62S, R84E, zoned Remote Mixed Use, (Wrangell Island East - Back Channel)

...must file a written protest with the Borough Clerk, no later than Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM.

Written protests may be emailed to clerk@wrangell.com or delivered to 205 Brueger Street, Wrangell, AK 99929. Any such protest shall state the reason(s) for the protest in detail.

During the Regular Assembly meeting of July 28, 2026 at City Hall, beginning at 6:00pm (or 7:00pm if there is a Work Session), in the Borough Assembly Chambers, there will be a public hearing for the assembly to approve or deny moving forward with the request to purchase the borough-owned real property.
