2025-05-30 PSA SEAPA Annual Maintenance

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

For immediate release: May 30, 2025

Annual Maintenance Shutdown 2025

SEAPA will be shutting down the hydroelectric feed to Wrangell from June 10 –18, 2025 to allow for numerous critical maintenance activities at Tyee Lake, Swan Lake and the SEAPA Intertie transmission line. The Borough Assembly approved the annual fuel adjustment charge, which will be used to offset a portion of the diesel fuel expense incurred by WML&P during the SEAPA shutdown. The fuel adjustment charge is directly related to how much diesel fuel is needed to meet Wrangell’s power demands while SEAPA Hydro is unavailable.

The fuel adjustment charge will be calculated based on the diesel and oil expense and allocated on a prorated basis by the amount of kilowatt hours consumed during the diesel run. The charge is applied to a customer’s utility bill for the June/July billing period. This one-time charge will be a separate line item on the utility billings that will be sent out in July.

In preparation, Wrangell Municipal Light & Power advises customers to conserve energy, from June 10th through June 18th so the fuel adjustment charge will be minimized as much as possible. The less power all customers use, the less diesel fuel is needed to meet local power demands and the lower the additional cost will be for everyone.

WML&P thanks our customers for their understanding, support, and conservation efforts.
