PREVENTATIVE ACTION BOROUGH FACILITY CLOSURE NOTICE

Wrangell, AK – As a preventative measure to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 the City & Borough of Wrangell is canceling group activities and closing some facilities. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services (DHSS) is recommending social distancing as a means to reduce the spread of the virus. This includes the temporary discontinuation of group or congregate activities in Borough Facilities. The following closures will be in effect for a minimum of two weeks, with evaluation of the situation at that time to determine if extension is necessary:

James & Elsie Nolan Center:  Effective 12:00pm Friday, March 13, 2020. The closure includes the Theater and scheduled moving showings. Staff will be contacting representatives of groups with events currently scheduled to happen during this timeframe.

Irene Ingle Public Library: Effective 5:00pm Friday, March 13, 2020. Online books may still be downloaded. Library books may be reserved online or over the phone and arrangements for pick-up can be made over the phone with Library staff. Please hold on to any books currently checked out. They may be returned when the Library re-opens with any overdue fines waived.

Swimming Pool & Recreation Center/Community Center: Effective 1:30pm Friday, March 13, 2020. Please use this opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities the community has to offer.

The Borough regrets this inconvenience to the community. It is out of an abundance of caution these measures are being taken. At this time, all other Borough offices remain open to the public.
