News Release - Toilet Etiquitte
CITY AND BOROUGH OF WRANGELL
COMMUNITY HELP NEEDED – TOILET ETIQUETTE
BABY WIPES / FLUSHABLE WIPES
The City & Borough of Wrangell Sewer Department has had to spend thousands of dollars this year on pump replacements in the sewer system pump stations.
In April, we reported that there are several foreign objects that contribute to the damage to the sewer pumps.
Those objects include:
- feminine hygiene products
- baby wipes
- condoms
- syringes with needles
- “flushable wipes”
- wash cloths and hand towels
Above you can see in the photo, where our Sewer Department has pulled baby wipes and flushable wipes out of the screen at the sewer plant! Yes, this image is graphic however, we want the community to see that this is a real problem.
The Borough needs your help. Please refrain from putting these items in the sewer system. The impact of these objects on the system is literally causing the Borough to flush money down the toilet, due to preventable maintenance and replacement.
Please remember, the only things that should go down the toilet are human waste and toilet paper. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
