Personal Use Fireworks – What’s Allowed
Despite this morning mist, there is still not enough moisture under the tree-canopy to reverse yesterday’s decision about the Fireworks Show and person-use fireworks. For this we are heartily sorry. In addition to dry conditions, this decision is also based on the amount of available water in our reservoirs. A major fire could significantly deplete our fresh-water supply.
We have had questions from the public on what (if any) public use fireworks are allowed. Given the weather conditions, only the following are allowed:
• POP-ITS
• CAPS
In our municipal code, it states that Sparklers are allowed however, after consulting with the State Fire Marshal, he advised us not to allow Sparklers because they require ignition by flame and are considered an incendiary device.
The State Fire Marshal concurs with the City’s decision to cancel the Fireworks Display and restrict personal use fireworks in Wrangell.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping us all safe this Fourth of July!
