WRANGELL STUDENTS EARN TOP STATEWIDE RANKINGS IN ACADEMIC ASSESSMENTS
Wrangell, Alaska — The City and Borough of Wrangell proudly recognizes the outstanding performance of students in the Wrangell Public School District following the latest results from the Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR) assessments.
AK STAR is Alaska’s statewide assessment system designed to measure student achievement and academic growth over time. In the most recent results, Wrangell ranked among the top-performing districts in the state:
- 1st in Alaska for Math
- 6th in Language Arts/English
- 5th in the Alaska Science Assessment
These results reflect the hard work, dedication, and determination of Wrangell’s students, as well as the leadership and commitment of the district’s educators and administrators.
The City and Borough of Wrangell extends its sincere congratulations to the students who achieved these results and its appreciation to the teachers, support staff, administrators, and families who help make student success possible.
“Most importantly, this achievement belongs to Wrangell’s students,” said Borough Manager Mason Villarma. “Their hard work and commitment to learning is something the entire community should be proud of. We’re also grateful for the educators and school leadership who dedicate so much time and energy to helping Wrangell’s students succeed.”
The Borough remains committed to strengthening educational outcomes while connecting students with real-world opportunities. As Wrangell advances major economic and workforce initiatives across the maritime economy, energy infrastructure, healthcare, seafood processing, tourism, and other emerging sectors, the community is creating stronger pathways from education to meaningful careers. Together, Wrangell’s strong schools and expanding economic opportunities make the community an attractive place for families to live, work, and raise the next generation.
