Parks & Recreation Playground & Shelter Use Update

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Parks & Recreation Playground and Shelter Use

Wrangell, AK – Parks and Recreation understands the value of open spaces, public playgrounds and community shelters that serve as recreation facilities for the public to access for social gatherings. The department also understands the risks associated with close contact as it relates to the transmission of COVID-19. To that end, Parks and Recreation playgrounds and shelters are now open for use. The department asks all park visitors to continue practicing the following guidelines to keep the community healthy and show consideration for others:

  • Prepare for no access to public restrooms. Parks and Recreation is working to implement disinfectant protocols and appropriate staffing to open the restrooms in the near future.
  • Stay home if you are sick and consider contacting your health care provider.
  • Stay 6 feet away from others.
  • Recreate by yourself or with members of your household.
  • Avoid areas already in use by others if you cannot maintain at least 6 feet of separation.
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer, especially after touching shared surfaces such as a picnic tables, benches, and playground equipment.
  • While on trails, warn other users of your presence and as you pass; step aside to let others pass.
  • Clean up and remove any feces left by your dog.
