The State of Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Community and Regional Affairs through the Rural Utility Business Advisor (RUBA) program is sponsoring an Elected Officials Management for Rural Utilities class to be held in the City and Borough of Wrangell, at City Hall, in the Borough Assembly Chambers. The course begins promptly at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd and Friday, December 4th and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. on both days.
WHAT WILL I LEARN? This workshop provides an overview of government for community leaders in rural Alaska. Topics include Local Government in Alaska 101, How to be an Effective Elected Official, Ethics Laws, Conflict of Interest, Reading & Writing Laws, Title 29, Meetings, Alaska’s Open Meeting Act, Parliamentary Procedure, and Financial Management.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Borough Assembly, School Board, Hospital Board, Port Commission, Tribal Council, and other Board, Committee, and Commission members.
Contact Ryan Wilson at 907-465-4813 if you have any questions on the class. Contact Kim Lane, Borough Clerk at 907-874-2381 or clerk@wrangell.com for general questions.
If you plan on attending, please send me an email, letting me know. Also, please pass this information along to anyone who would benefit from this training. This is the first year that we have invited our Local Government Specialist in from Juneau to do this training. Therefore, I really do not know what to expect. I am optimistic though and believe that it will benefit everyone who attends government or tribal meetings.
Hope to see you there!
