HEALTH ALERT
LOCAL COVID OUTBREAK & MITIGATION MEASURES
The Wrangell Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was notified today of Wrangell’s 10th, 11th, and 12th active positive cases of COVID-19. The individuals are local residents and are in isolation. Wrangell is experiencing a COVID outbreak. There is confirmation of community spread of the virus. We need everyone’s help to stop this outbreak.
Practice basic mitigation measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
Isolate yourself if you feel any cold-like symptoms and get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible.
Avoid crowded places and gatherings; keep social circles very small.
Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household.
Always have a mask on when you are around people outside of your household – even if you can maintain a 6-foot distance from others.
Wash your hands often and disinfect commonly touched surfaces and objects.
Limit trips outside the home and consider using curbside pick-up or delivery of food, groceries and other supplies.
The City & Borough of Wrangell will be making operational changes beginning Thursday, April 15, 2021 during this outbreak:
The Library will transition to visitation by appointment only or curbside service. Library staff will assist in every way possible. Please call 874-3535 to make an appointment or request assistance. Email mvillarma@wrangell.com or visit the Library’s on-line catalog to request something.
Parks & Recreation and Pool:
Cardio Equipment use will be by appointment only and reduced capacity.
Indoor recreation activities are cancelled.
Pool will remain open but locker rooms will be closed.
Racquetball, Wallyball and Pickleball are closed.
Indoor Facility and Park Shelter Rentals are closed.
Nolan Center:
Movies will continue with no concession service. Mask wearing is required at all times during movie attendance.
No facility rentals or events during this time.
Masks are required in all City facilities unless otherwise directed (e.g. swimming).
Further closures may be necessary if the outbreak increases. Let’s work together to keep Wrangell safe, slow the spread, protect our residents, and keep our local schools, services and economy running.
