WMC Board Announces New CEO

WMC Board Announces New CEO

August, 2015 – “After a very tough final few hours of deliberating, the WMC Board is very happy to announce that we have offered a contract for the position of CEO to Mr. Robert Rang of Kodiak, and even happier to announce that he has accepted and will start work at WMC on Monday, October 12, 2015,” declared board president, Terri Henson, shortly after the contract with Mr. Rang had been signed.  “It was a difficult decision between the two final candidates,” added Henson, “there were so many qualities and strengths on both sides that would have served WMC well, and we really appreciate that Aaron McPherson was willing to enter the process, and thank him for that.”

The Board had sifted through nearly 40 applications, narrowing the field to 10 applicants and then, through a series of special meetings, further to four applicants who were then interviewed via video conference which further narrowed the selection to three candidates.  Dr. Aaron McPherson, was the lone local candidate, the other two, Mr. Lyle and Mr. Rang, were then invited to Wrangell for site visits.

During their visit, all three candidates met with WMC staff and Leadership Team, the Borough Manager, AICS leadership, members of the community and again with the WMC board – many of whom also left written comments for the board to review.  “The community and staff feedback was wonderful,” remarked board member Woody Wilson, “not only was there a large number of comments, but they were very thoughtful and, for the most part, seemed to follow what the board was thinking and feeling.”

Shortly after the contract had been signed a stand up meeting was held at WMC to introduce Mr. Rang and his wife, Brenda, to the staff.  “I am really looking forward to becoming part of the team,” said Rang after the introduction, “Brenda and I have been very impressed with our welcome to Wrangell and it’s been gratifying to see the support in the community for the hospital.”

Rang will attend the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association’s conference in September (along with current CEO, Marla Sanger, Doran Hammet, CFO and Aaron McPherson, Director of Operations) as a representative  from Wrangell Medical Center.  “I feel so fortunate that Robert is ready to hit the ground running and I’m comfortable that I am leaving WMC in very capable hands,” remarked Sanger.
