Position Summary

This is a full-time permanent hourly position with benefits. Pay is set at Non-Union Grade 20.

Summary of duties: The City & Borough of Wrangell is seeking a dedicated and community-minded Police Officer to join our Public Safety Department. This full-time position involves law enforcement duties including patrol, investigations, service of warrants, citation issuance, and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws. The ideal candidate will support the Wrangell Police Department’s Positive Culture of Policing initiative, promoting fairness, professionalism, respect, and community engagement through collaborative problem-solving and service-first policing.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; minimum age 21.
• Successful completion of a public safety standards and training academy within probationary period.
• Basic Certificate from the Alaska Police Standards Council.
• Valid driver’s license; CPR and First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of law enforcement practices, traffic control, and criminal investigation.
• Physical fitness and ability to safely perform law enforcement duties.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work varying shifts and locations.
