Position Summary
The Lead Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the Borough's Fleet Maintenance Shop. This position coordinates and performs maintenance, repair, overhaul, and fabrication work on a wide variety of Borough vehicles and equipment, including light- and heavy-duty trucks, public safety vehicles, construction equipment, and portable powered equipment.
Working under the general supervision of the Electrical Superintendent, the Lead Fleet Mechanic plans and assigns work, supervises and trains staff, manages shop operations, assists with budgeting and procurement, and ensures the safe and efficient operation of the Borough's fleet. This position serves as the senior-level mechanic and provides leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to other employees.
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or GED plus two years of technical training in automotive maintenance and mechanical repair.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive, diesel, heavy and light vehicles and equipment.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and ability to maintain required certifications in brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, powertrain, suspension, and steering systems.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English and effectively communicate with staff, vendors, contractors, and the public.
• Ability to work safely in shop and field environments, perform physically demanding work, and lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
