MODIFIED NOTICE - No Public Access to Solid Waste Transfer Station During Metal Hauling

Due to a combination of area congestion and the lack of public attention to the facility operator's direction, experienced today at the transfer station (the Dump), the Borough will be closing the facility to the public, completely, on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (June 21st-24th).

Due to safety risks, of everyone involved with access to the facility, we cannot continue the earlier-established reduced hours of operation for the public. The facility will be CLOSED until further notice.

If there is a disposal need related to health and safety, please call the Public Works office at 874-3904 to discuss special access arrangements.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Metal Scrap Hauling to Begin Tuesday, June 20th

Channel Construction will begin hauling Wrangell's scrap metal on Tuesday morning, June 20th. The truck traffic will follow the route of Church Street from the north end, turning onto McKinnon Street by Ottesens, then right on Front Street and left onto Campbell Drive to end at the barge ramp.

With two cruise ships in town this week, we urge everyone to use caution when walking and driving through these areas with the extra truck traffic. Remember to try to make eye contact with the truck drivers when crossing roads and intersections.

A reminder that the solid waste transfer facility (aka The Dump) will only be open to the public from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. each day this week. Regular curbside collection is expected to remain on schedule.

Feel free to call Public Works if you have questions...874-3904.

Temporary Closure / Reduced Hours at the Solid Waste Transfer Station (aka The Dump)

The Solid Waste Transfer Station will have reduced hours that the facility will be open to the public from Tuesday, June 20th through Saturday, June 24th. The reduced hours of operation are as follows:

Tuesday, June 20          2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 21    2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 22        2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Friday, June 23             2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 24         2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

These reduced hours are necessary to complete the scrap metal stockpile’s clearing and hauling project without jeopardizing the safety of the public and the safety of the staff members of Channel Construction and the CBW. If the contractor completes the work early, the transfer station will reopen the facility to regular hours.  To minimize inconvenience during the closure, the CBW encourages citizens to make alternate plans if you regularly haul garbage to the facility or have a clean-up project planned during these dates.

Normal residential and commercial garbage collection service will continue during these dates.

The Borough and Public Works appreciates the patience of Wrangell citizens during this clean-up project.  For questions, please call Public Works at 874-3904.
