Public Hearing for Community Development Block Grant -COVID

The City and Borough of Wrangell will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, for the purpose of seeking citizen views and community comments and accepting alternative project proposals for funding consideration under the Community Development Block Grant-COVID (CDBG-CV) program.

Project funding ideas may still be proposed by the public and the public can still participate in the discussion about each presented project.  Please contact Kim Lane if you would like to be listed under Persons to be Heard, or contact Carol Rushmore at ecodev@wrangell.com or 907-874-2381 if you have ideas or comments. 

ELIGIBLE TYPES OF PROJECTS

State of Alaska CDBG-CV funds may only be used to fund community development activities carried out to PREVENT, PREPARE FOR, AND RESPOND TO CORONAVIRUS.  By law, use of funds for any other purpose is unallowable.The following are examples of eligible activities:

* Reconfiguration of interior space to reinforce social distancing recommendations.
* Interior physical barriers such as clear plexiglass in public areas.
* Ventilation Systems (high-efficiency particulate air filters, air purifiers, dehumidifiers).
* Temperature, humidity, and air quality sensors to reduce airborne transmission.
* Stand-alone sinks or handwashing stations.
* Replacement of fixed windows with operable windows.
* Accessibility improvements for persons with disabilities that reduce contact.
* Installation of drive-through or walk-up windows.
* Technology improvements to support remote access.
* Modification of roadways and sidewalks to allow for social distancing.
* Creation of outdoor areas with shade covers and seating that ensure physical distancing.
* Exterior physical barriers such as fencing or planters.

Potential projects could include:

- Emergency Shelters -  that will allow for physical distancing
- Non-Congregate Shelters
- Day-Access Centers – that will help meet social distancing and prevent the spread
- Social Services Facilities  - that will allow for physical distancing or remote access
- Childcare Facilities – to encourage social distancing and reduce the spread
- Crisis Call Centers – upgrades in response to growing calls due to social isolation measures
- Internet Access – extension of highspeed internet to improve remote access to reduce transmission
- Accessibility and Remote access to Public meetings – physical modifications or improvements for remote video access to public meetings
- Public Rights-of-Way -  creation of outdoor space allowing socially distanced activities in high volume areas
