Project Updates

Follow the progress and timeline of the Freedom Rock® Veterans Memorial as the project moves forward.

Artwork Complete — August 2026

Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II has completed the artwork for Alaska's first official Freedom Rock®.

Site Preparation Complete

Initial site preparation and foundation work at City Park have been completed.

Final Memorial Development — Underway

CBW is working through selection and procurement of the remaining memorial elements, including the pavilion, benches, interpretive signage, flagpole, security features, landscaping, and site furnishings.

Funding & Sponsorship — Ongoing

A $25,000 State of Alaska Veterans Affairs grant application is pending. Sponsorships, donations, materials, and in-kind services continue to be accepted to support the remaining work.

Next Steps

As funding, procurement, and construction schedules are finalized, remaining site elements will be installed and the memorial prepared for its official dedication.
