Business Incentives
Wrangell is open for business!
Wrangell will try to meet your business development needs. There are several things the community can do to assist with a development plan and has done so in the past.
Property tax relief may be available for economic development projects creating jobs within the community. Tax relief currently takes a vote of the people, but the voters approved a five year tax incentive package in 1999 for a company creating over 35 jobs.
Financing participation may also be an option for projects creating jobs. The City participates in the Southeast Alaska Revolving Loan Fund which can assist directly with financing of a project or work in cooperation with a local bank. The Fund may help with modifying payment schedules or amounts to ease the start-up/expansion efforts for the business.
The City Council has in the past approved a loan participation through an interest buy down program. Such a program would need to be reviewed specific to any project.
Industrial oriented projects may be able to negotiate a lower interruptible power rate with the Project Management Committee with the support and assistance of the City of Wrangell.
