Project Overview

The Freedom Rock® Tour is a nationwide public art initiative created by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II to honor veterans and preserve military history through murals painted on natural stone.

Bubba has spent more than two decades creating one-of-a-kind memorials throughout the United States. Working closely with each community, he develops artwork that reflects local history and military heritage, ensuring every Freedom Rock® tells a story unique to its location.

Wrangell's Freedom Rock is the first official Freedom Rock® in Alaska and was developed through contributions from local veterans, families, residents, businesses, volunteers, and community partners.

The completed artwork is now the centerpiece of a permanent veterans memorial being developed at City Park.
