Veterans Memorial Potluck featuring Bubba

Artist Visit & Community Potluck

Wrangell welcomed Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II in July 2026 as he began painting Alaska's first official Freedom Rock®.

During his time in Wrangell, community members had opportunities to meet the artist, observe his work, share stories, and learn about the inspiration behind the mural.

A community potluck at City Park brought together residents, veterans, volunteers, project supporters, and the artist during the painting process.

The final artwork was completed in August 2026.

Upcoming Event - Memorial Dedication

 

The next major community event will be the official dedication of the completed Freedom Rock® Veterans Memorial.

A dedication date will be announced as the remaining site improvements, procurement, and construction schedule are finalized.
